Twas’ the night of the ball; heels were high, suits pressed, and smiles on. After chaotic months of planning, dress shopping, and rehearsals, the Biomedicine Charity ball did not disappoint.
Ball at Crown Palladium
Our 800 guests made their way from Ubers with friends through the entrance to the Crown Towers and ascended the glamorous Atrium staircase. After a brief time in line chatting with friends, both old and new, tickets were scanned with afterparty stamps ready to go. Guests were offered many a photo opp against the gorgeous lobby backdrop with mirror selfies and champagne sunrises galore.
At 7:30, it was time to head into the decadent Palladium ballroom. Reactions were priceless as the lights and centrepieces dazzled in the aura of MUBSO’s grand performance where we heard tunes from the likes of La La Land and all your jazzy favourites.
In a brief break from the MUBSO set, we listened to a commencement speech from beloved 2024 BSS co-presidents Meg and Harry, and a thrilling introduction from our epic MC/secretary Winona.
As the MUBSO serenade resumed, dinner and dessert were served., satiating helpings of chicken breast and lemon mousse respectively. Fueled with adrenaline and a sudden urge to boogie, everyone flooded the dance floor, bouncing along to the beat of Dear Judy’s drums. As the set went on, many couples were seen slow dancing and living out their romantic prom movie dreams. But it wasn’t doom and gloom for the single pringles, as the set was filled with upbeat tempo, hitting all the staple party tunes and providing the perfect setting for some smooth moves from many of our guests. Safe to say the dance floor was on fire.
By 11:20 it was time to announce the winners of Best Dressed, Best Dancer and Best Duo for the night, as well as those of our raffle for Evidence Action. After a long night of spinning to win and many donations from our lovely guests, we were happy to see our raffle winners get their new BSS keep-cup and Gradready GAMSAT prep packages!! If you were unfortunate not to win, never fear. You can get your own new BSS keep-cup at the link here.
After-Party at CO. Nightclub
Drinks and conversations were flowing but the clock had struck 11:30 and it was time for the after party. There was many a shoe change and jacket removal to ensure comfortability and mobility for the intense dancing to come. After collection of bags from the cloak room, everyone headed to CO. nightclub to keep the party going! Thanks to the open bar tab, courtesy of BSS, and the absolute bangers from the goated AP DJ Jordy Moir, hitting us early with the club classics and a bit of techno towards the end of the night. When it hit 2:30 the d-floor was still buzzing and it wasn’t until 3 that the party died down – no one can say the BSS students don’t party hard! Eventually it was time to head home for a well-earned rest before the inevitable 9am uni the next day.
We want to say thank you to everyone who came along to ball this year for your amazing dance moves and classy conversations, but especially for your support of this year’s charity, Evidence Action on the night. You are still able to donate and check out some more of the work this amazing organisation does right here..
Until next time,
BSS
